American Soccer Player Michael Edwards Discusses Life with his New Team, VfL Wolfsburg

October 31, 2019

This summer, American center-back Michael Edwards joined a growing group of American players in making the jump across the Atlantic to play with the best of the best in the German Bundesliga. The Virginia native, who began his career not far from his hometown at the DC United Academy, is already making an impact on the field for the Wolves. Playing on the club’s second team, VfL Wolfsburg II, Edwards has played the full 90 minutes in each of his 9 appearances.

Playing in Germany has given Edwards the chance to sharpen his skills against top opponents with a faster pace of play, but living abroad also has its challenges. Luckily, Edwards’ teammates have been there to support him, including fellow Americans Ulysses Llanez and USMNT defender John Brooks. His teammates have welcomed him to Wolfsburg and are even helping him improve his German!

Edwards spoke to Wolfsburg’s Wölfe TV about his favorite soccer memory, his hobbies off the field, and why he chose soccer over American football. Check out the video and find more information about VfL Wolfsburg here!
