Kinderuni: Teaching STEM Through German
April 9, 2019
The German Digital Kinderuni (Children’s University) is a free education project through the Goethe-Institut for children from 8 to 12 years old. Schools can utilize Kinderuni in classrooms, teaching German in a playful way while focusing on important subject fields like science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Instructors and parents from Deerfield Elementary School in Lexington, SC had the opportunity to test out the online platform and were very excited by its potential for their students. Dawn Samples, the coordinator of the school district’s World Languages and Dual Language Immersion program, believes Kinderuni is a “perfect fit” for the German immersion program, wherein all K-5 students learn science and technology through foreign language study.
The official launch of the Digitale Kinderuni is planned for May 24-26 at the 2019 Sustainability Summit at Loyola University in Chicago.
