Moritz Simon Geist and his “Sonic Robots” performed at SXSW

March 21, 2019

The South by Southwest music festival is known for bringing together the best in art, technology, and start-ups from across the world. Though many might consider these completely different disciplines, German artist Mortiz Simon Geist uses his work to merge the science of robotics with the art of electronic music.

Unlike most electronic music, Geist’s sound is not created using song samples or synthesizers. Instead, he uses custom-made “Sonic Robots,” which are each designed to move and create its own organic sound. The result is a one-of-a-kind beat that highlights the future of human-machine interaction.

Geist and his robots performed at several venues at this year’s SXSW, including a set at the opening of the festival and a headlining performance entitled “Tripods One” at WUNDERBAR: German Music Night held at the German Haus.
