Sasha Waltz & Guests Perform KREATUR
October 28, 2019

Berlin’s foremost contemporary dance choreographer Sasha Waltz & Guests traveled to the United States to showcase two outstanding productions on both the East and West coasts this year as a part of Wunderbar Together.
The pictured performance, entitled KREATUR (CREATURE), took place in Los Angeles during the Opening Week of the Year of German-American Friendship in October 2018. Accompanied by her dancers on stage, Sasha Waltz “examines the phenomena of existence against the background of a disrupted society: power and a lack of power, dominance and weakness, freedom and control, community and isolation.” The LA performance was followed by four additional shows in Brooklyn.
Sasha Waltz & Guests also performed another show, KÖRPER (BODIES) for the Opening Week, this time in Berkeley, California. With audacious imagery and fearless dancers, KÖRPER demonstrated “the fundamental material substance of our bodies as we are thrown about, piled up, and ultimately liberated.”
As the Year of German-American Friendship comes to a close, Waltz came full-circle and returned with her company to perform KÖRPER in Portland, Oregon the same week that the PopUp tour made its final stop in the same city.
