German Federal Minister of Finance and Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz Visits Washington, DC

April 16, 2019

German Federal Minister of Finance and Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited Washington, DC for the 2019 World Bank Spring Meetings. While there, he took some time to meet with the Wunderbar Together team and discuss the importance of the German-American relationship in finance and in politics.

Scholz highlighted the strong ties between the United States and Germany both historically and today, saying: “It is absolutely key that we continue with a very good relationship between the United States and Germany. Any one of us knows of the importance the United States have for developing democracy after the Second World War and also for securing the development of our country and the cooperation in the transatlantic partnership. So this will be the key also in [the] future and we are doing a lot of things to keep it.”

The World Bank Spring Meetings were an ideal place for the two partners to meet and find solutions for important issues. “There are some questions that are on the table, more or less, between the European Union and the United States related to trade questions,” Scholz continued, “but I think that we are talking about solutions, and this is the right way to do that.”
