Germany and US U-19 Women’s National Teams Play International Friendlies in Fairfax, VA
June 20, 2019
While the US and German Women’s National Teams are both off to great starts at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, the national U-19 clubs will face off in two international friendly matches in Fairfax, Virginia at George Mason University on June 14 and 16.
Twenty-four German players will be making the trip to Virginia as they prepare for the final round of the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship happening this July in Scotland. The United States team presents the latest challenge in Germany’s quest for the cup, which included matches against England, Belgium, and Spain in the opening round.
“For us, this trip to the US, with two international games against the hosts, is the ideal preparation for the final round of the EM in July,” said coach Maren Meinert. “In the US, we will meet one of the best teams in this age group and can prove ourselves at a higher level.”
This game is only one of the many exciting games happening this summer as the US and German women’s national teams vie for dominance in tournaments across the globe. Follow their journeys on twitter @DFB_Frauen and @USWNT
