The German Studies Association is the premier multi- and interdisciplinary association of scholars focused on German, Austrian, and Swiss history, literature, culture studies, political science, and economics. A non-profit educational organization, GSA promotes research and study of Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

The GSA was founded in 1976 as the Western Association for German Studies (WAGS). The organization was then re-named the German Studies Association (GSA) in 1984. GSA is a member of the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS), holds an annual conference, and publishes a scholarly journal, the German Studies Review, as well as a newsletter.

This year’s GSA conference is being held in October in partnership with Wunderbar Together. These conferences bring together over thousand with presentations on a variety of topics that spanned from the Middle Ages to the present.

The GSA also partnered with Wunderbar Together and local partners to bring a series of public lectures by top professors to communities in Texas, Vermont, New Jersey, Ohio, and Minnesota. These lectures focused on some of the most interesting topics in German Studies, from “November 1918 – the View from Berlin” to “On the Run. Refugees, Migrants, Immigrants. Then and Now” and a screening and discussion of Yasemin Samdereli’s Turkish German film “Almanya.”
