The Art Institute of Chicago, founded in 1879, is a world-renowned art museum which houses one of the largest permanent collections in the United States. The Art Institute collects, preserves, and interprets works in every medium, representing the world’s diverse artistic traditions, across all historical periods. Located in downtown Chicago, The Art Institute has a span of approximately 1,000,000 square feet, and is the second largest museum in the country. The museum houses a collection of approximately 300,000 works of art which include Impressionist and Post-Impressionist painting, modern and contemporary art, early 20th century European painting and sculpture, Japanese prints, and photography. The museum’s Modern Wing is dedicated to modern and contemporary art, photography, architecture and design, and museum education facilities.
More than a museum, the Art Institute also includes a school, where current students are following in the footsteps of such luminaries as Charles White, Georgia O’Keefe, and Ivan Albright. Together, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the museum of the Art Institute of Chicago are internationally recognized as two of the leading fine arts institutions in the United States.
Wunderbar Together is partnering with the Chicago Art Institute to bring the cutting edge of contemporary German art to this iconic American institution with Sex, an exhibition by renowned German artist Anne Imhof. The exhibition combines sculpture, painting, dance, and sound and will open with three days of live performances before continuing on as an installation in the weeks that follow.
Imhof’s work will be performed on May 30, 31, and June 1. No registration is required. Find more information here.
