Germany Currents Film Festival in LA Opens with Andreas Dresen’s “Gundermann”

Hollywood’s historic Egyptian Theatre hosted the German Currents Film Festival, bringing the cutting edge of German cinema to a West Coast audience. The festival was opened by award-winning biopic Gundermann by renowned German director Andreas Dresen.

On May 21 the Detroit-Berlin Connection hosted The Potential music conference in cooperation with Your Mom’s Agency, Wunderbar Together, the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit, and the Goethe Institute Chicago. The exchange is the brainchild of Dimitri Hegemann, founder of one of Berlin’s original Techno clubs and a lifelong ambassador for the Detroit-Berlin Connection. German artist Mortiz Simon Geist brought his one-of-a-kind performance, “Tripods One,” to this year’s SXSW festival. Instead of using traditional instruments or synthesizers, Geist creates music using custom-made “Sonic Robots,” which are each designed to move and create its own organic sound.
